The decision awarding Amir Albazi the win over Kai Kara-France in the UFC Vegas 74 main event raised a lot of eyebrows. Several MMA pros, including Kara-France’s teammate and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, raised their voice in protest against the judges’ scorecards. Now, a seasoned UFC veteran has chimed in with his take on the issue, comparing it to a similar issue in a recent boxing match. He also had a suggestion on how to approach such controversial situations and make MMA judging more transparent.
Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi faced each other in the flyweight main event at UFC Vegas 74. The #3 and #7 ranked flyweights were both looking to enter title contention with a win. Both stars gave it their all for 25 minutes. Although many fans and pros believed that Kara-France had done enough to get the nod over Albazi, the judges said otherwise.
Albazi won a split decision after beating the Kiwi on the scorecards. Immediately after the decision, several fans and pros took to social media to question the judge’s decision. Adesanya was among those arguing strongly against the decision and asking for more accountability from the judges.

Now former UFC star and MMA analyst Dan Hardy has given his two cents on the situation. The former UFC title challenger had his own take on the issue and suggested solutions to improve the situation.
Dan Hardy chimes in on UFC Vegas 74 judging controversy
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Dan Hardy explained his stance on the UFC Vegas 74 judging controversy. He said, “What I would like to see is the judges stand in front of the public and make good reasoning for why they made those decisions.”
He continued, “You know the judges that I know that work in the European scene. They are, I mean, they’ll sit down and tell you exactly why they scored every round. And they’ll sit down after the events and discuss it amongst themselves as well.”
‘The Outlaw’ recalled a similar incident from the recent Devin Haney–Vasiliy Lomachenko boxing match. He said, “There was a lot of controversy around the Lomachenko-Haney scoring. And same thing again you know, the judge just kind of, they get n their car, they drive home.”

The Englishman added, “The whole industry is left kind of shaken by this one person’s decision who then isn’t held in any way… What you do want is for people to explain the decisions that they make. Especially when, you know, hundreds of thousands of dollars and big opportunities are on the line.”
Hardy is one of the sharpest and most reputed minds in the sport. Hence, his arguments and opinions hold their own weight. Do you think his suggestions could be helpful? Should the promotion hold judges more accountable for their decisions?
