Joe Rogan is affiliated with the UFC for a long time and has immense understanding and knowledge of the promotion. He has a great relationship with many fighters and invites many of them to his podcast to discuss various subjects. Recently, Rogan himself appeared on the ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson’ podcast and chimed in upon the much-awaited comeback of Conor McGregor.

He revealed his thoughts on ‘The Notorious’ trying to fight Kamaru Usman for a title fight on his return. The Irish MMA superstar has shown a desire to become the first three-division champ by beating the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’.

But Rogan believes McGregor should look for a less competitive fight to ease in. He said, “I think what Conor needs to do is what Conor wants to do. If Conor thinks he can go up and fight Usman, you know and make a big payday and try to become a three-division champion, he should do that. He should do whatever he wants to do.”

Rogan then went on to suggest what he would do if he was McGregor’s manager. “But if I was like a manager to him and I said what’s the best path to success? The best path to success is like the Cowboy [Donald Cerrone] fight, no disrespect to Cowboy but that fight turned out to be kind of like a warmup fight. Being Conor’s uh… you know he’s a ferocious striker, and he took Cowboy in the first round,” said Rogan.

Tyson intervened to back Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and said, “Cowboy is exciting though.”

Rogan agreed and took his point further to suggest it’s about what McGregor wants to achieve. He said, “Cowboy’s very exciting but that’s why that fight was a great fight. Because Cowboy didn’t run from him and met him head-on and he got caught. But if Conor wants the most chance of success, I would say fight a guy who is like a little below the championship level, maybe a guy on the come up, who like Conor has an advantage over but it’s still a competitive fight. Give him a test, but don’t put him in there like right away with Usman.”

Notably, McGregor fought Donald Cerrone in his comeback fight after his loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

He wants to become the first person to win a UFC title in three different divisions and set another record in his already illustrious career. However, according to Dana White, Leon Edwards is next in line to face the UFC pound-for-pound champion.
