Paradigm Sports were involved in the lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao for over two years. ‘PacMan’ signed a contract with the agency in 2020. But he later went on to negotiate other fights on his own, which created a breach of contract.

Manny Pacquiao ordered to pay $8 million

Paradigm Sports filed a lawsuit against Pacquiao and claimed that the former 8-division boxing champion was under a contract while being signed with another. They were on their way to set up a boxing match between Mikey Garcia and ‘PacMan’. But the fight fell apart and Paradigm Sports lost Garcia as their client. They were seeking damages upwards of $20 million from the lawsuit.

The jury went on to find Manny Pacquiao on the wrong side and claimed that he acted in bad faith. The Orange County jury ordered the boxing legend to pay $5.1 million to Conor McGregor’s agency, and an extra $2 million in jury fees. However, the total amount to be paid by Pacquiao amounts to almost $8 million. UFC legend and analyst Chael Sonnen presents his thoughts on the whole fiasco.

The worst thing about the lawsuit was that the verdict was announced on the day that marked the 10th anniversary of Pacquiao’s loss to Floyd Mayweather.

Chael Sonnen analyzes Pacquiao’s lawsuit loss

‘The American Gangster’ mentioned that Pacquiao was already engaged in a deal. He said, “Manny already had a deal. He already had a deal with somebody else.” However, Sonnen claims that many fighters make such mistakes, and most of the time it takes place during the early stages of their careers.

He said, “Every fighter goes through this, and a lot of time it’s real early on.” But he claims that after such contract fiascos, the fighters learn from it and tend not to repeat it again. “They all get smart to the business and they all look back, ‘Okay, I was a fool,’ and then they share it with the next guy,” said Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen was critical of the people that Pacquiao surrounds himself with. He expects a senior fighter to make younger fighters understand what went wrong. But Sonnen questions if ‘PacMan’ had someone to talk him out of it. He said, “Did nobody do that [Advise Pacquiao] with Manny? I mean, there’s so many ‘yes-man’ around, just nobody did that with Manny?”

Conor McGregor even issued a warning to Pacquiao, asking him not to try this stunt again. But it doesn’t seem like the former 8-division champion will stop fighting after the lawsuit.
