Crossover boxing fights have been one of the most entertaining things in the combat world in recent times. Conor McGregor started this trend way back in 2017 when he fought Floyd Mayweather at a boxing event and since then many MMA and boxing fighters have been looking to fight each other in a crossover. One such fight that is yet to materialize is the clash between UFC’s bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, and boxing prospect, Ryan Garcia.

The duo has been beefing for quite some time now, but Garcia’s recent win against WBO’s superlightweight champion, Devin Haney has increased the chances for a possible crossover boxing match between the two. ‘King Ry’ was amazing in his bout against Haney but it was not enough to content the bantamweight champion. After the win, ‘Suga’ uploaded a video on his Instagram handle mocking the way Garcia showed his back during the entire fight.

Just a day after the video was uploaded, Sean O’Malley has come forward to state that a boxing match between them is possible but he will have to gain much strength before it. During a recent episode of ‘Timbosugashow’, O’Malley said, “I still gotta become bigger. Two more f***ing sick performances, then we’re talking about being able to do whatever the f*** we want. They [UFC management] told me, ‘You can do a boxing fight one hundred percent if it makes us enough money’.

He further added, “The option is there, it just has to be able to make enough money but Ryan [Garcia] being a fu**ing freak like that, you need two A-sides to make a fu**ing Floyd-Conor fight.” Sean O’Malley is motivated enough to fight Garcia and seems like even the promotion is helping him, however, this constant boxing call from O’Malley seems to have gotten on the nerves of the MMA community.

The MMA community seems to have had enough of boxing banter

After his title victory, Sean O’Malley defended his belt only once and that to against Marlon Vera. There’s another challenger who is making rounds in the bantamweight division for a fight against the champion for a belt. Who is it, you might ask” Well it is none other than the Georgian, Merab Dvalishvili. ‘The Machine’ deserves a title shot at the ‘135’ lbs division but O’Malley is hellbent on not giving him a shot now and this seems to have irked the community.

There was a time when MMA champions used to fight multiple fights in a year to defend their title but the trend has been overturned in recent times and a fan seems to have highlighted it.

“I miss the old days where champs were focused on cleaning out their divisions”

Several UFC fighters talk about crossover boxing. Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are prime examples of it. This contact callout of crossover boxing has made the fans angry

“Tired of these ufc fighters going into boxing”

Merab Dvalishvili is no joke of a fighter. After his lackluster debut in the UFC, Dvalishvili went on to win every fight till now. He is riding a 10-fight winning streak. A fight with the Georgian would be hazardous for the champion.

“All these plans go out of the window when merab 50-45s him”

Furthermore, a fan reminded us that, Garcia is planning to fight O’Malley in an MMA cage.

“Ryan said he wants O’Malley in the cage tho…”

Moreover, another fan there the Dvalishvili jibe at ‘Suga’

“lol anything to avoid merab”

Last, but not least, a fan asserted that the MMA fighters should stick to MMA for the time being.

“Shut up and stick to mma, hate all these fighters that want to go and box for paydays”

From the reaction of the fans, they want Sean O’Malley to defend his belt multiple times before embracing his boxing journey. Nonetheless, What’s your take on Sean O’Malley’s demand for boxing? State your thoughts in the comments below.
