Boxing sensation Ryan Garcia has made headlines of late for his erratic behavior in public and on social media. This led the New York State Athletic Commission to step in and ask ‘KingRy’ to take a mental evaluation test days before his fight against Devin Haney. Meanwhile, UFC legend Chael Sonnen claims that there is a risk involved as the commission has stepped into this situation.

The super lightweight title will be up for grabs as Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia are set to battle for the gold on April 20. Nonetheless, the fans’ attention has been on the 25-year-old Los Alamitos native, who appeared to behave unexpectedly during the final face-off. However, the commission’s intervention in trying to figure out Garcia’s mental state may not be a wise move, according to Chael Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen is well aware of the fact that people have been talking about Ryan Garcia and the change in his nature. Moreover, many of them have expressed their concern on social media as well. Sonnen said, “There are a number of people coming about [to talk about Garcia’s mental state] and they are very concerned.”

‘The American Gangster’ also mentioned that there were other fans who wanted to see Ryan Garcia get back to his old self. Also, to prioritize his mental well-being, they have urged the New York Athletic Commission to take charge of the situation, which is what they’re trying to do.

“But they are concerned to the extent that they believe there is something off mentally and therefore they want the commission to step in and stop the fight,” Sonnen further stated. However, he believes that this could be a wrong move on the commission’s behalf.

Sonnen also spoke about the effects on Ryan Garcia if the commission, which is a government body, steps in. He believes the decision that the commission makes could make or break the 25-year-old, which could weigh heavily on the boxer. “The commission cannot just step in. This is a government agency. It is important they are right. If they are going to take an action that is irreversible, this will change a guy’s life. They got to be right,” Chael Sonnen added. Given that the recent press conference came under the focus of the fans, let’s take a look at an incident during that event when Garcia was called out by a fan.

If getting on Devin Haney’s face and yelling about his mother wasn’t enough, Ryan Garcia apparently got heated after a fan called him out during the final press conference. After getting asked a question from someone who was reportedly a member of Haney’s team, ‘KingRy’ responded to the heckler with some string language.

“Where is your Mumma at, baby? Where’s you mom? I’m gonna go flirt with your mumma. She fine as f***. I want your mum now… Your mum is probably in my dms,” said Ryan Garcia. He went on to rain down on the heckler with verbiage when Devin Haney took to the microphone to reveal that even he feels something could be wrong with the 25-year-old Los Alamitos native.

Whatever happens outside the squared circle means little to what goes down inside of it. As such, it remains to be seen if the concerns about Ryan Garcia’s mental health are true and if it has affected his boxing ability. What do you think? Let us know in the comments down below.
