Joe Rogan knows a lot about the ins and outs of just about any combat sport. And if he doesn’t, he’ll have a guest who’ll be more than willing to tell him everything about it. Recently, Joe Rogan was exposed to the dark world of boxing after he spoke with his guest Bernard Hopkins.

Hopkins has had a brilliant boxing career that spanned over three decades. Being a veteran, he’s seen a lot of dark things happen outside of the ring. The boxer who held multiple world championships has now opened up about the dim little alleyways of a sport he considers unregulated.

Joe Rogan and his claims with Hopkins’ revelations

Joe Rogan sat down with the boxing veteran in one of his most recent episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience. Hopkins started speaking about his experience in the field where he spent most of his life. It was interesting that Hopkins noted how he had a lot of learning to do while still boxing.

“The business part,” started Hopkins. “it had me thinking in between those moments of climbing the ladder or being a contender, that this is more than just going into the ring and winning and not winning. This was something that I had to learn quick,”

Hopkins’ words fell true on Rogan’s ears. What the boxer is trying to say is that boxing by itself is divided among many businesses even today. There are tons of promotions for boxers, so many things happen behind the scenes that cannot be controlled. A boxer might have their hands tied behind their back before they even enter the ring.

Rogan rightly claimed: “There’s a lot of shenanigans in boxing,” as the legendary boxer went on. And he was right about it too. Even drug testing isn’t as stable as one would like it to be. “You got a sport that’s unregulated,” noted Hopkins, pointing to how different promotions can have different standards of drug testing. And so the entire sport in itself becomes a bit lose when it comes to the ordeal.

Boxing gets a little difficult for fighters

The truth is, big brands and MMA promotions like the UFC and Bellator control a majority of the MMA world in a certain sense. These promotions attract the biggest names and the biggest crowds. Hence, drug-testing and controlling things behind the curtains gets easier under one single umbrella of a promotion.

However, the same can’t be applied to boxing. In fact, drug abuse rumors went wild even in the most recent boxing matchup between Dillon Danis and Logan Paul. Unfortunately, nobody knows how much truth there was to the rumors. And as it happens to be, no one ever will. So Hopkins pretty much knew what he was speaking from experience. Do you believe more regulation can help uplift the boxers’ world?
