In October 2022, the fight world witnessed one of the biggest female boxing fights of all time – Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall. Before the fight, both competitors were undefeated, and fans were excited to see who would come out on top. Delivering electrifying thrills, the bout went for all 10 rounds, before going to the judges.
Shields came out victorious with a dominant unanimous decision. To this day, fans still remember the hype of that bout. Recently, Shields spoke to PFL and talked about a rematch with Marshall. However, her words did not settle well with the fans, who called her out immediately.

Claressa Shields compares herself with Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather
Shields was talking about venturing into the world of MMA when the topic of Savannah Marshall came up. According to the middleweight champ, an MMA fight between her and Marshall would generate immense hype. Further, she also stated her beliefs that this would be beneficial for the entire female combat sports scene.

“It’s a big draw (in MMA) and more money and making women’s boxing as a whole with women combat sports,” she said. Going further, she drew comparisons between her potential fight with Marshall and Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather! “If we fought in MMA, I think it would be like Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather,” the accomplished boxer said.
While Shields vs. Marshall in an MMA fight is a far-fetched idea, you never know when it becomes a reality. ‘The GWOAT’ has an MMA record of 1-1. Marshall, on the other hand, has never stepped into an MMA cage.
Fans react to Claressa Shields’ remarks
Fans were quick to voice their opinions in response to this statement. However, the overall sentiment was not something Shields might have expected. Fans did not find her comparison with the $600 million dollar earning McGregor vs. Mayweather fight very apt and called her out for it.

The majority of the comments were against her statement. Further, many expressed skepticism and found the analogy far-fetched.

Her rematch against Marshall is not officialized yet. However, ‘Silent Assassin’ has come back to winning ways with a win against Franchón Crews-Dezurn.
