Ex-NFL and UFC star Greg Hardy beat Hasim Rahman Jr. this past Saturday. The fight took place on the main card of the Misfits x DAZN Series 3 boxing event. UFC legend Chael Sonnen reflected on the fight and gave his thoughts on Greg Hardy.

The influencer boxing event went down at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Hardy had the upper hand for the majority of the fight. He proved to be too much for Rahman Jr. and secured a win via unanimous decision.

Chael Sonnen gives his thoughts on Greg Hardy

Greg Hardy stepped in on short notice to face Hasim Rahman Jr. on Saturday. Rahman Jr.’s initial opponent was former UFC champion Vitor Belfort who pulled out due to undisclosed reasons. Former UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen recently mentioned why the fight had his attention.

Speaking of Greg Hardy, he said, “So they bring in Greg Hardy. All right. That actually has my interest. I find Greg Hardy to be interesting. Like, there’s always something going on. Whether you’ve got this inhaler or you’ve got this big NFL guy that’s coming over, like, whatever it is, you’ve always got something with Greg Hardy, in my opinion.”

In his fight against Rahman Jr., Hardy weighed in 94 lbs heavier than his opponent. The 34-year-old exited the UFC after fighting out his contract. In his last fight at UFC 272, he lost to Sergey Spivak by TKO.

Hardy gained some notoriety in the UFC after the controversial use of his inhaler during a fight. Back in 2019, Hardy used the inhaler in between rounds during his fight against Ben Sosoli. The promotion later overturned his win into a no-contest after the incident blew up.

Hardy’s explanation for the infamous inhaler incident

Hardy got in serious trouble for using his inhaler during a UFC fight in 2019. The prime consequence was that the promotion overturned his win into a no-contest. However, the former NFL star had an explanation for his side of the story. He explained,

“I was in the ring, (and) me and my coach asked the commission if it would be OK to use my inhaler and they said yes, so I took it.”

“I’m still a new guy in this sport. I did what I do in every situation – I asked permission, I got permission and I did what I was told.”

UFC president Dana White expressed his disappointment with the whole thing. He said that Hardy’s coach and former UFC fighter Din Thomas should have known these things.
