The UFC is not new to coming under flak owing to the fighter pay disparity issue. While UFC 300 saw record-breaking bonuses, when the average of PPVs is compared to other combat sport payouts, the difference puts the unbothered head honcho to shame. Even the payouts between the biggest UFC stars and biggest boxing stars, say Jon Jones and Tyson Fury, only emphasize the said stark difference.

To elaborate, although at a glance the pay disparity might not seem much, we would beg to differ. Did you catch Tyson Fury fighting Oleksander Usyk last night? Despite being defeated and having to relinquish his title, Fury has certainly won the money fight. According to reports, the total purse for the British heavyweight stands at approximately $150 million. So, while Fury might have lost the legacy fight, his massive earnings tell a different story.

His earnings make sense, thanks to lucrative pay-per-view deals and sponsorships. Meanwhile, Jon Jones, the reigning heavyweight champion, is prepping for a likely final bout against Stipe Miocic, with an estimated $15 million purse. While Jones will pull impressive PPV numbers, they won’t match the astronomical earnings of Tyson Fury.

This was the reason why hundreds of fighters filed an antitrust lawsuit against Dana White and the UFC. Nonetheless, this pay disparity has sparked a wave of reactions from fans who couldn’t muster up the fact that how can there be such a big difference when both fighters have the same level of fame.

Fan questions the authenticity of numbers for Tyson Fury and Jon Jones

Many UFC fighters have left the organization to fight under different promotions and some of them have also ventured into boxing as well. Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva are two of the biggest names in the promotion who have left the UFC for boxing.

“Damn 150M, I get why some ufc stars are boxing now”

If we look at the numbers even though boxing has a huge following it is still under the following of the UFC. There seems to be more following for UFC but the pay disparity is huge as well.

“How does boxing afford to pay this? Seems UFC audience has outgrown them. Why is there such a huge disparity?”

Nonetheless, a fan stated the obvious as he added that the fighters should be paid more. According to a report, an average UFC fighter makes $150,249 per annum.

A fan seems to accuse the UFC of not paying their fighters better.

“We already know the ufc dont pay they fighters , especially the best ones.”

A fan seems to be accusing the media of mishandling the numbers. He added that Conor McGregor even didn’t make that much money when he fought Floyd Mayweather. Nonetheless, the fact is Fury has always been paid astronomical numbers for his fights.

“Tyson ain’t make 150 mil stop the cap conor ain’t even made that much in a single fight”

Last but not the least, a fan emphasized that it would be a better argument if they included the average professional boxer’s salary as well which stands at less than $70000 a year.

“Now let’s talk about the rest of the fighters and what they made last night”

The pay disparity might be huge and it might be problematic for Dana White in the future as more fighters might ask for better payment from him. Nonetheless, what’s your opinion on the pay difference between Tyson Fury and Jon Jones? State your thoughts in the comments below.
