Chael Sonnen believes Jake Paul’s deal with PFL has problems

‘The American Gangster’ took to his talk show and blasted about the problems associated with a 50-50 deal. He took the example of a main event to make things easier to understand. The former UFC fighter said, “If we just go main event, and it’s 50%. It’s red corner and blue corner splitting that so that they both get 25. I mean, do you see where this starts to be a problem? I mean, it starts to just create hard feelings…”

Furthermore, the ex-fighter gave an example of Floyd Mayweather. He revealed the reason behind Mayweather denying splitting the revenue in a 50-50 ratio with Manny Pacquiao. ‘Money’ simply said that he didn’t need Pacquiao. He reasoned that he would be taking all the risks and not him. Simply on the basis of principle, ‘Money’ denied splitting revenues with Pacquiao. Sonnen said, “Floyd Mayweather had never 50-50 split in his career.”

Sonnen continued his reasoning that the splitting of revenues might give rise to newer and sometimes even greater problems. Then, he questioned if it was even fair trade. He said, “Sometimes, it can create bigger problems. Is that a fair share to kick in 50%? Man, it seems heavy to me. It seems heavy to me. If I’m doing everything and taking all the risks, it’s my money. You’re not even kicking in. But at the end of the day, you can get a windfall with zero risk. I can’t give you a 50%.”

The former mixed martial artist said, “But, they do now have Jake Paul and what is he going to do? And I must tell you, I do think that it is a pay-per-view attraction. I do. There’s not very many guys that can stand on their own. And I will watch Jake Paul’s fight in the PFL. I don’t know when it is, I don’t know what it costs, I don’t know if it’s a Friday or a Saturday. I don’t know the weight class and I don’t know who the opponent is… I’m watching without having any information.”
