Undefeated Boxer Jake Paul Becomes “Hard to Hate” for MMA Community After Pushing for ‘Fighters Pay’

YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul have got the combat sports world buzzing after he signed a multi-fight deal with the Professional Fighters League. He is set to make his MMA debut soon and even owns a PFL equity stake. Former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub has heaped praise on Jake Paul’s efforts on increasing fighter pay.

Brendan Schaub was a contestant on the tenth season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ He signed with UFC in 2009 and went on to fight for the promotion till 2014. Schaub is well-known for his 47-second TKO win over Chase Gormley on the UFC Live: Vera vs Jones event. He later announced his retirement from MMA in 2015 on Joe Rogan’s podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’

Brendan Schaub successfully transitioned to podcasting and stand-up comedy after leaving the sport of MMA. His podcast, ‘The Fighter and the Kid’ was produced by the FOX network until 2016. Schaub also made his stand-up comedy debut in 2016 at ‘The Comedy Store’ in Los Angeles, California. He was recently interviewed by The Schmo’ where he shared his thoughts on Jake Paul’s MMA venture.

Brendan Schaub praises Jake Paul on his efforts to increase fighter pay

Brendan Schaub told The Schmo that Jake Paul cannot be hated now. He mentions that Paul allowing fighters to take 50 percent of the fight revenue is a great step to help increase the fighter pay. Schaub said, “Jake Paul’s brilliant, right? Because he’s owning a piece of PFL now and then he’s getting the fighters 50 percent so he’s doing the Lord’s work as far as fighters pay. “It’s hard to hate on him now, right? Especially when he’s putting it all on the line to do MMA.”

Schaub also talks about the popularity of ‘The Problem Child’. He believes that Jake Paul’s venture into the MMA could help them make a lot of money by putting more eyes on the sport. Schaub thinks Nate Diaz is the perfect opponent for Jake Paul. He said, “Nate Diaz could be there if PFL could afford it. Nate Diaz is the fight …think about the money they’d make” It is still undecided when Jake Paul will make his MMA debut. but it remains to be seen whom he will fight as his first opponent.

Fans can hate him or love him. But no one can deny the amount of buzz Jake Paul is capable of creating. The ‘Problem Child’ has made it clear to pursue both, boxing and MMA, at the same time. Money has been a growing concern among the fighters. Paul’s efforts in trying to increase fighter pay have been well-received by many people in the MMA community.
