Unified middleweight world champion, Canelo Alvarez, and former UFC two-division champion, Henry Cejudo, were recently in a verbal back-and-forth. Chiefly, the two combatants got into it over Ryan Garcia, who has been a frequent target for Cejudo. ‘The Messenger’ has spent a large portion of his retirement calling out Garcia, and Saul Canelo Alvarez had his own take on the matter.

Chiefly, the two went back-and-forth in a lobby surrounded by various team members, including Alvarez’s trainer. While the interaction wasn’t particularly contentious, both men were standing a meaningful distance apart while jawing back and forth. Ryan Garcia has been seen in close quarters with Canelo Alvarez, and it seems like the multi-institutional champion is fired up.

In turn, ‘KingRy has done his part to keep a feud simmering with Henry Cejudo through comments he’s made. While fighting a former Olympic wrestler and MMA champion isn’t on his mind, Garcia is keeping all doors open. The young star has begun making his mark in the sport and will be keen to continue riding his wave.

Henry Cejudo and Canelo Alvarez: An overview

Henry Cejudo last competed back in May 2020 at UFC 249 when he TKO’ed former bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz. Following the win, he hung up the gloves and has yet to be booked for a contest. However, he’s been a frequent presence around the MMA community and many believe he’ll be back in short order.

‘Triple C’ has been angling for a big money fight with several boxers, and he could potentially get his wish against Garcia. With match-ups such as Jake Paul vs Ben Askren set to go down soon, there’s no limit on the type of matchmaking going around. It’s a matter of timing and of course contract negotiations when trying to put such bouts together.

As for Canelo Alvarez, he’s been keeping himself busy and will look to remain active throughout 2021. He’s fresh off a demolition TKO victory over Avni Yildirim, which was more of a one-sided affair than anything else. The 55-1-2 fighter put his WBA and WBC super-middleweight title and walked away with his legacy still intact.
