Ali Abdelaziz is one of the most renowned managers in all of MMA. Known for managing multiple champions across promotions, the Egyptian-born combat sports manager is known for getting his fighters the fights they want. There seems to be a very structured formula that involves trash talking and calling out the potential opponents to the point that they crack. Canelo Alvarez, however, never cracks under pressure and this is proof of that.

Ali Abdelaziz places himself close to the epicenter of fighter squabbles, such as the Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov fiasco, which skyrocketed him to fame in the world of MMA and on a global scale. The latest one he involved himself in for his client is with unified super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez, the biggest name in all boxing, is enjoying an incredible reign comparable to the historical greats. Being one of the biggest draws in the sport, he can cherry-pick his opponents.

That being said, Abdelaziz tweeted the following about Alvarez. UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman stated that he wanted to fight Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match, which probably sent Abdelaziz into overdrive as he tried to make that fight happen.

@Canelo is an absolute chicken, he is fighting guys with 5000 followers on Instagram, these guys will never do nothing for his legacy. Now I understand why he doesn’t wanna lose to someone like @USMAN84kg this is chicken style, no risk – no reward.”

Alvarez came back with a reply that couldn’t have belittled Abdelaziz anymore than this. Keeping it short and clear, he made it sound as though he has never heard of the manager before. The Mexican wrote, “Who the f*** is this?”

Chances are, he’s probably never actually heard of him, given how dense and populated the network of boxing in itself is. However, this must have been a real gut punch to the Egyptian manager who’s trying to make a move.

Will Kamaru Usman fight Canelo Alvarez?

The Nigerian Nightmare has explicitly stated his wish to fight Alvarez in a boxing match. Whether this happens or not, it might be an intriguing bout to look at. However, if it happens to be an all-out boxing match, Alvarez might take it with little to no difficulty.

That’s a risk that Usman seems to bank on. Right off the bat, there isn’t enough banter or substance between the two. It may be tough to sell a fight this big, but the wheels have been set in motion. Therefore, their managers might actually play it right into creating a massive cross-sport collision.
