But what happens after the clash of these heavyweight combat sport stars legends in the boxing ring? Well, the combat sports world has often witnessed boxers talking about crossing over to MMA after their boxing matches with MMA fighters. Rumors about the noted Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather stepping into the octagon took over the world of combat sports after he fought UFC icon Conor McGregor in the boxing ring. A large chunk of the combat sports community may be predicting a similar move from Fury too after his showdown with the Ngannou. But what are the chances?

Has Tyson Fury ever talked about competing in MMA?

Many in the combat sports community remember the beef between Fury and UFC heavyweight champ, Jon Jones, that took place earlier this year. The reputed UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, unknowingly stirred up this beef when he implied that ‘Bones’ would get the better of Fury in a no-holds-barred fight. Rogan’s words had both parties responding and the combat sports world saw the possibility of a Jon Jones vs. Tyson Fury fight becoming clearer. However, throughout the entire beef, ‘The Gyspsy King’ kept on stressing that he wasn’t ready for an MMA fight against Jones.

A video on the noted former UFC Middleweight king, Israel Adesanya’s YouTube channel, also showcases Fury presenting a similar opinion. ‘Izzy’ caught up with Fury in June this year and had a friendly interaction with him. He also kept on stressing the fact that Fury needed to prove himself inside the MMA cage as well if he wanted to call himself the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ as he does.

However, the 35-year-old expressed similar thoughts as he had during the rumors of his fight against Jon Jones. He replied to ‘Izzy’ with, “I ain’t going into no cage. F**k you!”, but with a smile.

Hence, it’s quite apparent that ‘The Gyspy King’ has actually talked about competing in MMA. But his tone has never been affirmative regarding this issue. Do you think his thoughts will change within a span of four months?

Starting the grueling MMA training at 35 may be too much for Tyson Fury

A lot would happily label Fury as the greatest boxer of today’s era. But competing in MMA is a whole different ball game. A lot of combat sports fans may have watched Joe Rogan’s analysis about what would’ve happened if Mayweather faced McGregor in an MMA cage. Most MMA fans and even a lot of boxing fans would agree with Rogan’s prediction.

Fury would also need to pick up a whole new set of abilities and techniques like Rogan mentioned in the video. In addition, he will have to adapt to fighting in a smaller cage, with smaller gloves on, longer rounds, and with an all-new scoring standard.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
