Ever since the weight-miss fiasco at UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev seems to have embraced a villain role in the UFC. The 28-year-old was supposed to send Nate Diaz into retirement in what many considered a mismatch. However, the dominant Chechen athlete came in heavy on the scales and earned the ire of many fans.
However, this was not the first time that Chimaev fell out with the fans. Early on in his UFC career, Chimaev received flak from the fans for refusing to appear on Mike Tyson’s podcast.
Back in December 2021, ‘Borz’ confirmed that he had indeed rejected an invitation to appear alongside Mike Tyson on the latter’s podcast. ‘The Wolf’ had his own reasons for refusing to chat with Tyson on a platform that many covet.

Why did Khamzat Chimaev reject Mike Tyson’s podcast invite?
Explaining his choice to turn down the offer, Khamzat Chimaev said, “Ali [his agent] said Mike Tyson wants something, but I didn’t go. I didn’t have much desire to do that. As a fighter, an athlete, I really like him.” However, he further added, “But I don’t like what all happened with him- the violence, the pills, the marijuana, then Muslims, it’s strange.”

He ended his statement by saying, “He went through a lot of things and because of this, he broke down, did a lot of bad things. And no one knows what will happen to me. It can happen to anyone.”

Although Chimaev may not have meant any disrespect, his comments did not go down well with many fans. One fan even commented, “But you refused the real Mike Tyson pizdez”.
Chimaev has become the target of backlash to the same issue again following a recent social media post.
- mike tyson or just tyson ?
- I thought u didnt want to meet tyson
- Bro really have a beef with mike tyson
- Didn’t know your dog is a member of the international hall of fame
Fans further troll Chimaev (again) for rejecting Mike Tyson
In a recent Instagram post, Khamzat Chimaev posed with his dog for a picture. In the caption, he wrote, “My best friend Tyson.” While Chimaev was simply sharing a picture of himself with his pet, a section of the fans took it as a jibe at Mike Tyson as the dog was his namesake.

They took to the comment section to point out the hypocrisy and have a laugh at Chimaev and his dog’s expense.
- Named him after Mike Tyson but refuses to mert him because of hos problems, so why name a dog after a person you dont like?
- Named your dog tyson
- Tyson Is that Mike Tyson?
- iron mike?
What are your thoughts on Chimaev not appearing on Tyson’s podcast? Do you think he named the dog after ‘Iron’ Mike?
