Tristin Kennedy Opens Up About Conor McGregor’s Boxing Stint (Exclusive)

Conor McGregor suffered the maiden TKO of his pro-combat career when he lost to Floyd Mayweather in a boxing contest in 2017. Although he managed to earn over $100 million from the fight, the in-ring outcome wasn’t what his fans expected.

29-year-old McGregor couldn’t last the final bell against 40-year-old Mayweather. The UFC fighter has demanded a rematch against ‘Money’ Mayweather several times. However, those plans are yet to come to fruition.  Meanwhile, Conor McGregor’s nutritionist has looked back on the fight after six years, expressing his honest views in an exclusive chat with Essentially Sports.

Tristin Kennedy has been in Conor McGregor’s team for a long time. But he wasn’t with him during the Floyd Mayweather clash. Having known the UFC star in and out, Kennedy shared some major insights into McGregor’s fighting career with us.

Referring to McGregor’s boxing loss against Mayweather during a chat with ES Fancast, Tristin Kennedy said, “At that moment of time, “I wasn’t working with Conor [McGregor] for the Floyd Mayweather fight..”

He added, “From a training perspective, when it comes to boxing. One thing I love to do is watch Conor box. It’s like he is in the matrix. I love it, I love to watch him box because like that like I know he does that kickboxing. Like, he is unbelievable.”

“When I see him box ping ping. ‘How he does these things? So majestic to watch, I think it goes back to the years of training in Crumlin boxing club.”

Conor McGregor has recently desired to have another ‘go’ at Floyd Mayweather, who has retired from professional boxing. The UFC star compared his performance against Floyd Mayweather to Canelo Alvarez’s from 2013. He stated that he had more success against Mayweather than the Mexican boxer. That being said, McGregor is scheduled for a highly-anticipated UFC return.

And Floyd Mayweather is only competing in exhibition bouts. Nevertheless, the lucrative business from their first fight and compel Mayweather and McGregor to clash again.

How Did ‘Notorious’ Perform against ‘TBE’ Mayweather in 2017?

Following an interesting buildup that saw both men travel to different cities around the world, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor locked horns in August 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Putting his 49-0 resume at stake, Mayweather welcomed McGregor in boxing. The duo unveiled the second-biggest PPV fight of all time. McGregor started off strongly and dominated Mayweather for the initial stage. He, however, applied a wrong move on a technically sound Mayweather, who kept his energy stored for the later stage.

In round 10, Floyd Mayweather landed a barrage of punches on McGregor, urging the referee to step in call off the bout. Per Compu Box, Floyd Mayweather connected 170 punches out of 320 attempts with a 53% accuracy. ‘Money’ shot 59 jabs and 261 power punches. He connected with 18 jabs and 152 power hits in total.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor had an accuracy of 26% as he landed 111 total punches in 430 attempts. The UFC fighter landed 18 out of 59 attempted jabs and 152 power punches out of 232 attempts. Now that Mayweather is 46 years old, it’s hard to imagine him entertaining another fight against Conor McGregor.
