Lionel Messi has become God for many now, following his remarkable performance at FIFA 2022, where Argentina took home the golden trophy. At this given moment, he is one of the most loved athletes in the world. But that was not the case very long ago. The Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez happened to have some serious problems with the Argentina captain. It all started when some pictures surfaced on the internet that showed the locker room celebration of the Argentina team and it also reportedly displayed that Messi was disrespecting the Mexican flag. However, as per several reports, it was a fake picture and all that anger from Canelo was for nothing.
And now, UFC Star Santiago Ponzinibbio talked about how his ‘good friend’ Messi reacted to the situation. He backed the soccer star and stated how it all comes down to Canelo Alvarez coming back to his senses.

Ponzinibbio said, “I have a very good friend who’s friends with both of us. Sometimes I talk with him(Messi) on the phone. … Very nice, very humble. And also, when that happened, with the Canelo thing. I talked to him, and my friend sent him everything and he laughed, you know. He watched everything, and he laughed.” He further added, “That happens. That’s in the past. He said sorry, and that’s it, you know.”
The UFC star went on to praise Messi and how described him to be one of a kind human being. “And we know, this is what they say, you can’t judge for one little thing. If you watch the video, he’s(Messi) doing nothing. The first thing. And the second thing, you can’t judge Messi for a little thing. Look at his career, he’s super professional. Not only the best, he’s an example, you know. He’s of a humble guy, you know. And I think, you know, the direction are bad but he(Canelo) said sorry, and that’s about the past.”
It was all way too intense when the feud broke out initially. But it all settled off for good and Canelo even went on to fix his mistake soon after.
Canelo put the spat to rest and congratulated Argentina
Although the dispute took a rather nasty turn at one point, Canelo was quick to mend his doings when he found out that Messi wasn’t at fault. He apologized to the Argentina star for getting carried away by the emotions and bursting out wrongfully. Furthermore, he even went on to congratulate the team on their outstanding victory at FIFA 2022.
