NBA star Russell Westbrook got an unpleasant surprise last evening during the UFC 288 pay-per-view. During the co-main event, Daniel Cormier‘s keys to victory for Gilbert Burns were displayed in a graphic on the bottom left of the screen. One of those keys to victory included a random diss to the LA Clippers player. Fans have reacted to the incident on social media.
Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad fought each other in the co-main event after they accepted to fight each other on short notice. While Muhammad emerged victorious, it wasn’t the most interesting part of the bout.

UFC broadcast randomly takes a jibe at Russell Westbrook
As UFC 288 approached the co-main event, Gilbert Burns made his way to the octagon. Before he got into the cage, ‘Durinho’ was getting Vaseline applied on his face by the cut man when a graphic showed some tips from Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier for the Brazilian to carve out a victory against Belal Muhammad.

The first two tips were pretty standard suggestions that any fight fan would understand. But the third tip was an unusual one. It wrote: “Don’t be Russell Westbrook.” Burns’ efforts to become a UFC champion were compared to Westbrook’s NBA career, during which he failed to win a championship ring. In 2011-12, Westbrook led the Thunder to the NBA Finals, but Oklahoma City lost to the Heat in five games. Since then, he never played in the Finals again.

The result of the fight didn’t go as planned for Burns as he lost to Belal Muhammad via a unanimous decision. Fans were certainly not happy with what Cormier had to say. They are hoping that the UFC doesn’t slip up like this again in the future.
