A professional fighter has significant advantages over a normal person when it comes to combat or fighting in general. Hence, it is grossly unfair and prosecutable for fighters to take it out on a commoner. UFC fighters are hot-headed and it takes a split second for them to get tangled up in a controversy. The latest victim of such a controversy seems to be former UFC Lightweight champion, Conor McGregor.

At the NBA finals, the Miami Heat mascot was about to have a bad day as the ‘Notorious’ came to watch the match in Miami, Florida. Miami Heat lost the game to the Denver Nuggets. However, that was not all that happened at the match as the UFC fighter ended up hitting the mascot twice and sending him to the hospital ER.

A video went viral where UFC Lightweight Conor McGregor was seen decking the Miami Heat mascot and then punching him while he was on the floor. The man behind the mascot sustained severe injuries that landed him in the ER. McGregor has been heavily criticized for this. However, reporter Jesse Holland from bloodyelbow.com wrote an article saying that the whole thing was a staged kit, well after it happened.

Retired UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, who has much to say about anything and everything UFC, spoke up about it – and he had no intention of sugar-coating anything at all.

My man Jesse just had to put an article out to a few of you bozos… that it was staged. I’m just bringing that to your… that’s fascinating to me… that’s very fascinating – and says who, by the way… I mean Conor coming out and telling the world that this was a staged skit is a completely separate conversation from ‘Did Conor hit that person – Did Conor hit them in the head – Did Conor do it with a closed fist – Did Conor hurt that person?’ These are all separate conversations.” clarified Sonnen.

If you’re telling me that that was staged and that was agreed upon ahead of time – that isn’t gonna discount what happened… which was a professional fighter took a closed fist and threw it into somebody’s – what appeared to be head.” added the UFC legend, unhappy with how things unfolded at the NBA finals.

McGregor and his controversies – A stunt to keep him in light ahead of return?

There are theories in place that suggest that the whole thing was a skit. However, that doesn’t discount the fact that someone ending up in the hospital from serious injuries can never be a part of it. Chael Sonnen’s entire point revolved around this premise.

Conor McGregor has had his share of controversies. During the initial days of the McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov rivalry, the Irishman found himself in serious trouble after wrecking Nurmagomedov’s team bus. He had to do community service to compensate for the sentence. His recent ‘wrongdoing’ might land him in trouble if charges are pressed. However, people are suggesting it was scripted.

The only justification for a stunt like this could be to bring the limelight back onto Conor McGregor ahead of his return to the UFC to face old TUF rival Michael Chandler. McGregor has been away from the sport for a while and his recent documentary on Netflix managed to get some good views as well.
