Bill Russell’s death has been a tragic loss for the NBA community. Bill Russell, who had changed the course of professional basketball, passed away at age 88. Even the MMA community is heartbroken by his passing. Several well-known people from the MMA community reacted to the sad news.

MMA reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, tweeted highlighting the qualities he possessed.

Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole also reacted to the legendary athlete’s demise.

Media personality Ariel Helwani discussed what a great leader Russell was on and off the court.

A fan commented, “Undoubtably one of the greatest to lacem up. Thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends.”

Helwani also shared a short of Kobe Bryant speaking to Russell.

Retired UFC fighter Alan Jouban too mentioned the NBA legend in a short tweet.

Former UFC fighter and champion, Tyron Woodley shared a picture of Russell on his Instagram stories.

Similarly, Kevin Holland too shared a picture of the former NBA player and wrote, “Rip you legend”.

Hence, he will be remembered as a great athlete who also played an important role in the country’s history.

Further, as per an announcement made on Russell’s Twitter account, he passed away peacefully with his wife by his side. Details about the 11 times NBA champion’s funeral will be released soon.

While the athlete changed the face of professional basketball, he also made a huge impact off the court. As per ‘Bleacher Report‘, Russell worked relentlessly as a civil rights activist. In the year 2011, he was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama.

While his death is a tragic loss for the sports community all over the globe, people are remembering his great contributions. After all, he had several accomplishments.

As a five-time NBA MVP and a 12-time All-Star, he was an important figure for the Boston Celtics in the 1960s.

The great star was born on February 12, 1934, in Monroe, Louisiana. Later, his family moved to San Francisco Bay Area. During his schooling, he earned a scholarship to play at the University of San Francisco. Post that, he didn’t look back.
