All sports look easier on the television screen. So it is not uncommon to see some fans claiming that they could compete or even beat professional athletes at their sport. That, of course, is not true. Former NBA player Brian Scalabrine, an unknown and unremarkable former NBA player put out a challenge that he would go against any non-NBA player one-on-one to prove just how big the gap is.

Needless to say, he humiliated every fan who took the challenge, demonstrating just how big the gap between professional athletes and civilians is. And it seems that such assumptions are not just limited to fans, but also other athletes.

He stated that he doesn’t have a good ground defense and that would be the thing he needs to train in. If he could work on his ground defense for a year, he could beat Jones, according to the 36-year-old.

Fans react to Johnson claiming he could beat Jones after one year of training

Predictably, fans were having none of Johnson’s claims about beating perhaps the greatest MMA fighter of all time. Here is what they had to say.

One fan thought this was because bodybuilder Bradley Martyn thought he could beat professional fighters:

“I blame Bradley Martin for this”

Another agreed with Johnson, provided Jones breaks both his legs and gets disqualified:

“Maybe if jones breaks both legs within that year and the eye pokes him in the fight and looses by DQ”

Another thought Jones had more of a chance at beating Johnson at his sport than the other way around:

“Jon jones had more of a chance winning in basketball against this guy then he does beating jones in a fight lol”

One MMA fan felt Johnson should concentrate on basketball:

“Dude better stick to basketball cause his brain already shitty talking that noise.”

Well, they say anything can happen in MMA. And UFC 293 is a shining illustration of this. But, it is safe to say that an NBA player with no fight experience will find it next to impossible to beat the man many consider the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
