For UFC fans, UFC 117 is difficult to forget. The fight between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva was a breathtaking visual feast for viewers all over the world. Although Silva long dominated the UFC middleweight class, this was his most incredible triumph. He was clearly laboring during the first bout, and many predicted Sonnen would win. The real reason for Silva’s struggles, however, is revealed by Joe Rogan in The Joe Rogan Experience episode 1920, after thirteen years.
Joe Rogan on the struggles of Anderson Silva
Rogan knew the perfect reason for the struggle Anderson was having. He says, “I mean, Chael Sonnen was a beast. He was really fu*king good. And people get confused of that because of his antics and he is not the guy that’s going to beat Jone Jones. He is not the guy that’s gonna beat Anderson Silva, he almost be there, Silva, but about a fu*ked-up rib going into that fight and wound up submitting him in the last round with a fu*king triangle, which was wild”. Here, Rogan is all praise for Silva for defeating Sonnen in the last round despite not being physically fit.

After this incident, fans waited impatiently for the fight between the two, and UFC 117 was the perfect answer. Everyone was convinced after the first round that Chael wasn’t just a talker but also possessed super strength in his fists. He lost a fight that he came close to winning; therefore, it didn’t turn out well for him.
Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen in UFC 117
The spider has established a record by winning eleven straight UFC matches. He successfully defended his middleweight title six times, which is one of the best feats in UFC history. Silva’s injury, though, clearly took a toll on him, as evidenced by his lackluster performance in the opening rounds, claims Rogan. When the fight was due to take place, Sonnen was viewed as being significantly weaker and less powerful than Silva. In his career as a fighter, Chael had been submitted several times. The public has also seen him lose matches that he was nearly winning multiple times. Sonnan’s ability to wrestle Silva was his greatest asset. He was, however, the most powerful wrestler Anderson had ever faced.
