Conor McGregor‘s coach, John Kavanagh, is all charged up to begin the fight camp with the former Double Champ ahead of his bout with Dustin Poirier. The rematch between the UFC veterans is being targeted for UFC 257 on January 23, 2021.

This contest has become a ‘talk of the town’ among MMA fans even before it’s scheduled.

Kavanagh took to Twitter when a fan compared the rematch between the two with ‘Rocky vs Apollo’ of the Oscar winning film series ‘Rocky’.

This fan wished Coach Kavanagh luck for his camp with McGregor and wrote, ”Good luck coach! Connor will need it, to me this is rocky vs apollo, rocky was a fighter, apollo was a showman, Dustin Poirier is a fighter.

Replying to his tweet, Kavanagh wrote, “The Dancing Destroyer went 47-1 with 46 wins by KO. He was the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. He came back and literally fought to death against a much younger bigger juiced up cheat. Showman yes but make no mistake the King of Sting was a fighter first.”

Kavanagh referred to the Double Champ as Apollo Creed from the film ‘Rocky,’ who is a devastating KO artist and not just a showman.

Kavanagh set to join McGregor for Poirier camp

Though the McGregor vs Poirier is not officially announced, it is speculated to be on January 23 at UFC 257. Talking to ESPN, Dana White said, ”Jan. 23 on Fight Island, if everything goes according to plans. There are a ton of if’s right now. I have to see where the world is at in the next couple of months.
