Today’s UFC Vegas 16 card suffered a major blow. A quarter of the card’s fights have to be canceled. The card was scheduled with 11 fights overall but will go ahead with only 8 fights now.

Jimmy Flick vs Cody Durden had a non-covid related issue and had to be called off as confirmed by the UFC. The flyweight bout got called off as Durden had to withdraw. The bout is already rescheduled though on the December 19 card. The UFC canceled the rest of the two bouts due to the positive coronavirus tests.

Movsar Evloev vs Nate Landwehr had their featherweight contest called off. Montana De La Rosa vs Taila Santos have been canceled too. However, Taila Santos is already rescheduled to fight on December 19 against Gillian Robertson.

Robertson was set to fight Andrea Lee on UFC 256. But Lee had to withdraw, leaving both Robertson and Santos looking for an opponent. They have been booked to fight each other.

Last week the main event between Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes couldn’t progress as Blaydes tested positive for COVID-19. Now, on this card, two fights have been scrapped for the same reason.

Jack Hermansson is set to face Marvin Vettori in the main event

The UFC Fight Night card is headlined by a middleweight bout between Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori. Hermansson was originally set to fight Kevin Holland after Darren Till had to pull out. Holland tested positive, hence Vettori stepped in. Now, ‘Trail Blazer’ will fight “Jacare” Souza on UFC 256.

Numerous flights have been canceled recently due to COVID and injury issues. But, the UFC has been very active to get replacement bouts ready. They have to be lauded for that.

As for today’s card, nothing about Movsar Evolev vs Nate Landwehr is known yet. Also, Montana De La Rosa is yet to get to a fight. The rest of the fighters have all got their bookings done. Also, with the big main event, the card is set to be a cracker despite having only 8 fights.
