Daniel Cormier describes in the ‘Year of the Fighter’ how the loss against Jon Jones still affects him. He stated, “This fight is still discouraging for me because I was fighting so well. I felt like we were very competitive over the course of the time that Jones and I spent in the Octagon with him winning that second fight in that fashion.”

The retired UFC fighter then states how the UFC 219 event was easily the worst night of his life, mainly due to him not being able to tell his son about the loss after the fight. He stated, “But this was easily the worst night of my life. Before my son got to watch fights, and he was at the hotel with the babysitter, and the next morning, I was laying in the bed, and the first thing he did and as the sun came up, he ran over to Dad and asked if Dad won. You know, I could hear him asking his mother in the bed that Dad win, did Dad win?”

“And I had to hear her tell him no. And I was just laying there crying because my biggest fear was to see my kid’s face. Knowing that I didn’t get the job done.” Explains DC, claiming that his disappointment stemmed from when he had to hear his wife tell his son about the loss.

Daniel Cormier was undoubtedly shaken up after his fight against Jones in their second fight. He had to take a year off to deal with the demons circling his loss against Jones. However, it didn’t take long for him to return, and when he did, he made sure to etch his name in the UFC history books.
