We all have heard many rags to riches stories of athletes. However, the former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor’s journey to the pinnacle is one of the most fascinating. ‘The Notorious,’ became a huge name in the fight industry in just a few years. He has had some of the most amazing fights and iconic moments inside the cage. Here’s a throwback to one such iconic moment from his UFC career.

The Irish fighter was already a huge name in the MMA world, before his UFC debut because of his dominance in Cage Warriors. He made his UFC debut in 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden, on the undercard of Gegard Mousasi and Ilir Latifi.

McGregor faced the then 3-0 record holder Marcus Brimage. He took only 67 seconds of the first round to finish the American fighter. Later, he gave an electrifying post-fight interview in which he said, Thank you so much, Dana 60 G’s baby.”

This became one of the most iconic phrases in the UFC world. And also garnered a lot of attention for the Dublin native.

Fans’ reaction to the iconic line from Conor McGregor

‘The Notorious’ finished his debut match in style and gave the most famous lines of his career. Apparently, ’60Gs’ means $60,000. The Irish fighter demanded a fight bonus for his performance.

Interestingly, UFC President Dana White fulfilled his demand and rewarded him with a ‘Knockout of the Night’ bonus of $60,000. This was a huge sum for the then-up-and-coming fighter.

A YouTube channel recently uploaded a clip from the same interview. Below are some of the comments from the fans:

At that time $60K was like $60 million to him.

He went from “Dana, 60Gs baby” to “WHERE TF IS MY SECOND BELT” … in 3 years.

If someone pays him that, now he’ll puke on them and slap them

I miss this Connor. The hunger, the confidence, and the absolute master every time he stepped into that cage. This will forever be the best version of him as a fighter.

$60k since than he has been paid millions every fight and still I have never seen him more happy than in here.

It’s crazy how passionate he was about the sport before the big money fights moves etc.

From there, it was no stopping McGregor. The boy from Dublin later became the dual weight champion of UFC. He is also listed among the highest-paid athletes on the planet. Although he had some shortcomings during his journey to the pinnacle, McGregor has achieved a lot to be called the G.O.A.T of the game.
