Sonnen said, “Look, I’m sure that Conor and Floyd have made contact with one another. That’s a little weird.” He added, “Every idea starts somewhere, and you got to kind of get it going, but if you and a guy are talking, that’s the one thing that you make sure that nobody knows.”

Chael Sonnen further explained his point and stated, “If you and a guy talk, you go work out a deal. And you decide you’re going to go to the public or you’re going to go to the promoter. Absolutely nobody can know that you and that guy have spoke ever. That would be very weird. That would be a huge letdown.”

Nobody expected McGregor to do well, considering he was fighting arguably the greatest boxer on the planet. But the Irishman had moments in the fight where he went toe to toe and even got the better of Mayweather.

Ultimately, all of this wasn’t enough to secure a victory. McGregor lost in the 10th round via a Technical knockout. The fans were still surprised that McGregor lasted 10 rounds against a top boxer, even though he had no professional boxing experience.
