Former UFC double champ Conor McGregor‘s name got caught in an unwanted piece of news, much to no fault of his, after the Irishman’s former bodyguard was sentenced to prison time in a 2016 assault case.

Gezim Idrzi, who has served as McGregor’s bodyguard on multiple public appearances for the UFC star, was sentenced last month by a jury in Dublin Circuit Court. Idrzi, 37, is also the Managing Director of GZ Professional Security Ltd located in Dublin. The Albanian national who moved to Ireland as a teenager had earlier denied his role in the assault case; which unfortunately left the victim unable to work for a period of six months.

As per a report by Irish Mirror, Idrzi, and the man who claimed to have been assaulted by the bodyguard, were already acquainted with each other owing to prior business partnerships. The turn of events as described in the Irish Mirror showed how the victim was called to Idrzi’s premises on the pretext of a business deal.

The victim, who remained unnamed, then described the shocking events which saw him get bound, taped, and punched repeatedly in the face. Following his regaining consciousness, he claimed that the accused warned him not to contact Gardai, the police force of Ireland; and that he would face the consequences if he did so.

But despite warnings, the victim did get the police involved; resulting in a thorough search of the GZ security premises. Along with the medical reports and evidence collected, Idrzi was sentenced to three years and three months for the violent crime.

The victim also claimed that due to the injuries suffered; he had to stay off work for six months, eventually resulting in a financial loss for him.

The Irish Mirror also points out that the 37-year-old security business owner had earlier worked with the UFC star multiple times. He was seen accompanying McGregor at the 2017 premier of the MMA fighter’s documentary in Dublin.

Following that, Idrzi and his firm also provided their security service during McGregor and his fiances’ visit to a music festival in 2019. Prior to that, in 2018, when ‘The Notorious’ made an appearance before the Dublin district court, Idrzi was the one to provide his services for the Irishman as well.

It appears that the former champ employed his services for any major public appearances that took place in Ireland over the last few years.
