After Charles Oliveira‘s win against Beneil Dariush, the UFC universe is excited to see him get a second shot at the Lightweight title against Islam Makhachev. The last bout between the two saw Makhachev taking the win. However, now, Charles Oliveira is a top contender for the title once again, although Alexander Volkanovski is also a favorite when it comes to a Lightweight title shot.

Makhachev, after beating Charles Oliveira, called out Volkanovski and went on to beat him as well in a thrilling showdown at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. Ever since then, the UFC has been wondering who would be getting a title shot against Makhachev next. Now, the win over Darish has solidified Oliveira against Makhachev for a mandatory rematch against the Dagestani.

Max Holloway answers, who is the ‘rightful’ candidate for the Lightweight title shot?
UFC veteran and former Featherweight king Max Holloway is coming out of a fresh win against rising prospect Arnold Allen, on April 16, 2023. In a recent interview with TheMacLife on YouTube, Holloway revealed his pick for who deserves a title shot against Makhachev for the Lightweight title.
When the interviewer asked him about Oliveira securing a win over Dariush at UFC 289 and what he thought of Oliveira getting a title shot, Max Holloway said, “He’s getting his rightful spot in October to get that rematch, and I’m excited to watch it happen.” The interviewer then asked him if he believed Charles Oliveira deserved the title shot more than Alexander Volkanovski, to which Max Holloway replied saying, “Oh brother, I think he.. I think he did more than enough but we’ll see you know? Alex is still coming up on July 7 again and stuff. That’s something amazing. I think UFC picks him too so.. We’ll see what happens you know I guess it’s a gamble right now“.

When asked about who he would be rooting for, in the bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez, Holloway said, “Man I think it’s just.. I think I’m just gonna be sitting back and be a fan favorite, you know? Enjoy it as a fan, you know? These guys is good. They’re both good.”
