Earlier this year, the world of combat sports was rocked when 39-year-old Jorge Masvidal came out of retirement, stepping back into the spotlight for a highly anticipated boxing match against his old MMA nemesis, Nate Diaz. Fans couldn’t believe it—’Gamebred,’ after hanging up his gloves, was back for what many considered a rematch of their iconic UFC 244 showdown. But this time, the result left a bitter taste in Masvidal’s mouth. Feeling robbed by the judge’s decision, the Miami brawler swore off boxing for good, declaring he’d never return to the squared circle.

Yet, Masvidal isn’t done shocking the world. Despite his frustration, he’s now teasing a return to where he made his name—MMA—with his eyes locked on the BMF title currently held by Max Holloway. The very belt that first solidified Masvidal’s legendary status, when he brutally dismantled Diaz at UFC 244. In a recent interview, Masvidal didn’t hold back, hinting that the fire still burns and a return to reclaim the BMF crown might be closer than anyone expects.

Jorge Masvidal sets his sights on Max Holloway’s BMF title

Unfortunately for Gamebread, Max Holloway, who is gearing up to face Ilia Topuria at UFC’s upcoming Abu Dhabi event, has his sights set on Topuria’s featherweight title, aiming to add another ‘infinity stone’ to his collection. However, he has no idea that his BMF title is now in jeopardy, In a recent interview with MMA Fighting SBN, Jorge Masvidal was asked by the host, “Is there a world where we could see you go for that BMF again?”

Renowned for his attitude and refusal to bow down to anyone, the fighter from Miami, surprisingly showed respect for Holloway. Revealing his admiration for the former champion. Jorge Masvidal said, “I’m the biggest max fan. I love this guy. In low how he fights, I love his style, I love how he carries himself outside of the cage. He’s one of my all-time favorite fighters. So man, it would be an honor to fight Max.”

In the past, Masvidal has caused major headaches for the promotion and the company due to his controversies with other fighters, such as his legal issues with Colby Covington, which nearly landed him in prison. Masvidal’s history shows that whoever he fights often becomes his bitter enemy. However, this time is different. In the same interview, he hinted at potentially blocking Conor McGregor‘s chance to return to the octagon by setting his sights on Michael Chandler.

Jorge Masvidal on his potential opponent

Since 2023, Michael Chandler has been out of the octagon, largely due to his wait for a ‘golden ticket’ fight against Conor Mcgregor, which has been pending for over a year. The bout was almost set to happen on June 29, but a few days before the fight, McGregor’s pinky toe injury put it in limbo. Now, after nearly 18 months of waiting, Chandler is still in limbo regarding McGregor.

Recently, Jorge Masvidal shared his thoughts on McGregor’s potential return, making it clear that he believes McGregor is not coming back. Gamebred threw himself into the mix as a potential opponent for Iron, stating, “That wouldn’t be a bad fight [against Michael Chandler] to get my feet wet again with MMA. Kind of introductory course into MMA, you know. I wouldn’t mind that fight, but there’s a lot of fights out there. I just throw out that one, like let’s go, you want to go down one with one of the most f**ing electrifying motherf*ers to ever touch the sport, let’s f**ing go.”
