Is Khabib Nurmagomedov the most outstanding MMA athlete ever? While many believe he is, few still don’t consider him the greatest. Despite boasting a record of 29-0 before retiring from the sport, UFC veteran Daniel Cormier believes there is another Dagestani fighter more dangerous than him. He was of course talking about the current lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.

However, his long-time coach, Javier Mendez, doesn’t quite agree with this. The legendary coach has witnessed two of the most dominant fighters from close quarters. So, without wasting much time, let us find out what he had to say about the entire claim.

35-year-old Khabib Nurmagomedov was at a completely different level during his fighting days. He not only won all 29 fights he fought but lost only two rounds in his entire career. However, despite his dominance, he still doesn’t qualify as the greatest, according to many including the UFC CEO. Dana White in a recent interview claimed that the Dagestani didn’t stay long enough to prove his greatness. His long-time friend Daniel Cormier also mentioned how Islam Makhachev has better striking, which makes him better than what ‘The Eagle’ was in his prime. But coach Javier Mendez absolutely denies this idea.

He recently made an appearance on the MMA Mania show and shared his opinion on the ongoing debate. He said, “Okay he’s more skilled in multiple areas. More dangerous? Nobody is more dangerous in my opinion in the world than Khabib. No one. I don’t care. I haven’t seen one that’s more dangerous than Khabib in the sense of danger. Meaning you can’t do nothing to him. Very difficult to do anything to him. Khabib is the most dangerous in my opinion. Because first of all in my opinion… this is my opinion and I’m being biased because I love him to death.”

Islam Makhachev unimpressed with the UFC 300 BMF title fight

Islam Makhachev has been making headlines outside the Octagon for all his verbal battles with Dustin Poirier. The current champion, initially called Poirier ‘unworthy’ of getting a title shot and faced a lot of slack from the fans. Recently, he shared his opinion on the upcoming BMF title fight at UFC 300 as well.

In a recent interview, he criticized the BMF title fight. He said, “I don’t want to make people upset, but this is a useless fight for a useless belt. Nobody gains anything from this fight. I have three guys: (Arman) Tsarukyan, (Charles) Oliveira, and Gaethje, but Tsarukyan and Oliveira – I beat them already. But I have Gaethje – he deserves to fight for the title now. This is a good time for him”. Makhachev is all set to feature in a fight this year, but his opponent is yet to be decided. While many believe Dustin Poirier will get a title shot next after his impressive performance at UFC 299, the fight is yet to be finalized. Who will Islam Makhachev face next in his career? Let us know in the comments below.
