Most UFC fans probably witnessed how the post-UFC 288 feud between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley reached its conclusion. The current UFC Bantamweight champ, O’Malley got the better of ‘Funk Master’ at their UFC 292 bout, also capturing his UFC bantamweight gold in the process. But some fans may have also noticed that Sterling’s friend, the known UFC Bantamweight, Merab Dvalishvili stole O’Malley’s jacket and wore it himself amidst the ‘Sugar’-‘Funk Master’ feud.

Now that O’Malley has already defeated his friend, ‘The Machine’ Dvalishvili, feels it’s his turn to have a shot at the current UFC Bantamweight champ’s title. However, ‘Sugar’ hinted that he wanted to fight the only person who defeated him in his entire UFC career, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, next. But in his appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’, Dvalishvili said, he would fall asleep if he watched that fight. Quite expectedly, ‘Sugar’ found ‘The Machine’s’ words too much of a stretch and gave a stern reply to him regarding another issue he discussed on ‘The MMA Hour’.

Sean O’Malley thinks Dana White should not oblige to Merab Dvalishvili’s demands

‘Sugar’ chose the platform of his podcast to reply to ‘The Machine’s’ words about his and Vera’s fight. He said, Merab “saying something” like that was really “foul”. However, his brother and co-host, Daniel O’Malley, informed him about something about the Georgian that most fans may find really startling.

Daniel disclosed that Merab said, “If Dana came to him and Aljo with the right amount of money, they’ll probably be willing to fight each other”. But ‘Sugar’ viewed this as the perfect opportunity to return the jibe Dvalishvili took at him. O’Malley said, “no one really cares to see that fight either”.

Daniel also agreed to ‘Sugar’ on this one. He pointed out that the buildup to the fight would be a boring one since they would probably be respectful to each other. But, even if they talked trash, Daniel opined that the audience would be intelligent enough to spot that out as “very fake” since “they have been friends for so long”.

It’s quite apparent that neither ‘Sugar’ nor Daniel wanted White to invest in this matchup. As O’Malley said, the fight may sell a pretty few tickets, since “no one” wanted to watch it. Both implied that investing in this fight would mean bad business for the UFC CEO.

Will Dana White be interested in the fight after a green signal from Dvalishvili?

Well, most fans know how the current heavyweight champ Jon Jones also made a Dvalishvili-like demand in order to accept a fight against the then-UFC heavyweight champ, Francis Ngannou. ‘Bones’ wanted a lot more money than what his contract mentioned since he fought as a light heavyweight at that time and had to go up a weight class to fight ‘The Predator’.

But fans also know that the UFC CEO, Dana White, denied ‘Bones’ demands. The negotiations related to this issue resulted in a dispute between the two parties that had ‘Bones’ going on a 3-year-long hiatus from the promotion. But the UFC still didn’t oblige to his demands even though the Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou bout, could have sold millions of PPVs.

But as O’Malley predicted, the probable sales of a Sterling vs. Dvalishvili bout would be considerably low. Hence, it’s quite hard to imagine that White will be looking to fix the fight instead of the bad business that it can lead to. But do you think he might grant the other wish of ‘The Machine’? Will the Georgia native actually receive the next shot at ‘Sugar’ O’Malley’s UFC Bantamweight title?

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
