Conor McGregor has been out of action for the past two years. The former two-division champion has been recovering from the brutal broken leg he suffered in his loss against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. But this was not the first time the two had met in the octagon.

The two had fought twice before, the first of which was won by the Irishman, and the second and third went to Poirier. And as the New Orleans native visits ‘Mac’s hometown of Dublin after the recent loss against Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt in July this year, McGregor has taken a shot at the Louisiana native.

Conor McGregor takes a shot at Dustin Poirier

On his Instagram Story, Conor McGregor shared a post from ‘MMA Pros Pick’s Instagram account. The post is a carousel post of images of McGregor, including one from his first match against Poirier at UFC 178 in September 2014. The Dubliner won the bout with ease through a stoppage in the first round.

After the match, Conor would say one of his most iconic lines. Having predicted before the fight that he would knock out Poirier in the first round and coming through on the prediction, the Dubliner declared himself to be “Mystic Mac” in the post-fight octagon interview. “So I said I’d knock him out in the first round and I knocked him out in the first round. You can call me Mystic Mac because I predict these things,” McGregor said in the interview.

When will Conor McGregor return to the UFC?

McGregor was slated to return this December against rival The Ultimate Fighter 31 coach Michael Chandler‘Notorious’ and Chandler had appeared on this year’s TUF, which saw a very poor showing from McGregor’s team, who lost all fights but one in the initial rounds. This caused the producers to get some members of Chandler’s team to move to ‘Mac’s team, in further humiliation for McGregor.

However, McGregor can still redeem the season if he has a dominant showing against ‘Iron’ in their welterweight bout. However, the exact timeline for his return remains unclear. In a series of distressed voice notes posted on his Twitter, ‘Mac’ told fans that he would not be making his comeback in December as “they” were preventing him. Many have speculated that he was either talking about the USADA or the Athletic Commission.

A few days later, however, McGregor would tweet that December was back on the table. However, the recent announcements by Dana White have almost confirmed that he will not be returning in December. And until an official announcement by the UFC, the exact date of his return remains unknown.
