With five consecutive losses for his team at TUF 31, Conor McGregor‘s coaching record seems to be taking more hits than his opponents. This underwhelming result has piled up on his in-ring return uncertainties, and the world is raising more and more questions about the Irishman. The first time Conor McGregor was a coach of The Ultimate Fighter was in the 22nd season.

Taking a look back at it, his earlier performance looked substantially better, where his team won 6 out of 9 elimination matches. Moreover, 3 out of 4 semi-finalists of that season were from The Notorious’ team. But seeing this season’s performance of team McGregor, many are calling the Irishman out. Recently, a UFC veteran took to Twitter to aim some shots at Conor McGregor for his performance at TUF 31.

Ben Askren hammers down on the coaching skills of Conor McGregor

Sharing a post about McGregor’s TUF losing streak, UFC veteran Ben Askren criticized the Irishman. Moreover, Askren even took a jibe at his fees for appearing in TUF 31, as he felt McGregor doesn’t actually care about the results.

“McGregor ain’t coming off great on this season of TUF. I’m interested in how much they paid him to do it since he clearly doesn’t care about it,” Askren wrote in his tweet.

However, it is important to note that the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter features two types of contestants – veterans, and prospects. Just as the names suggest, veterans are former UFC fighters, and prospects are fresh talents. Moreover, Conor McGregor’s team consists of all eight prospects, up against Michael Chandler’s experienced veterans.

Some believe that the current situation of Team McGregor is because of this mismatch of experience. However, other notable figures like Ben Askren are simply blaming McGregor’s coaching skills.

McGregor makes a special request to Dana White after his team loses 5th consecutive fight

Out of the total 5 fights lost, two are because of KOs and three are because of judges’ decision. After losing the 5th fight via a close unanimous decision, McGregor requested UFC Boss Dana White to add a 3rd round as well.

According to the Irishman, being on the TUF is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all contestants. Therefore, they should be given a chance to finish the fight in the 3rd round if the first 2 have been close.

“They are unfinished fights. If they go unfinished fights, give them the third round. There are guys fighting for their life here. In those situations where they’re closely-contested back-and-forth fights, there should be a third round.”
