The final verdict for the much-awaited main event of UFC 291 has come. Justin Gaethje tuned it up to eleven inside the cage to knock out Dustin Poirier with a head kick. Having secured the BMF title, Gaethje has now painted a target on his back. has surely. In the uproar following the monumental win, another name has popped into the equation. It was none other than the lightweight sensation Michael Chandler.

Currently slated for a showdown with Conor McGregor, Chandler has been getting impatient with the Irishman’s delay in proceedings. Therefore, he took aim at Gaethje after UFC 291, opening another option for himself. Little did he know that Gaethje’s UFC 291 dance partner would shut him down quickly.

How did Michael Chandler’s tweet provoke Dustin Poirier?

Considering the whole shebang of the main event, Michael Chandler tweeted a sarcastic proposal to Gaethje. Since Gaethje won the BMF title, the entire tweet revolved around the same. Through his Twitter handle, Chandler quoted, ” Well now, Justin Gaethje has the BMF belt. He has to defend it against a worthy adversary.” 

But unbeknownst to him, Dustin Poirier seemed unconvinced by his tweet. He intended to shut down his proposal as he resurfaced his tweet and further added his own quotes in the captions. His quotes seemed unforgiving as he said, “Shut ya bi**ha* *up.”

Both Gaethje and Poirier have beaten Chandler. Out of the two, Poirer had more beef with the ex-Bellator star and choked him out at the end of their bloodbath at UFC 281.

His abrasive remarks make clear how dissatisfied he was with the tweet. This was not the first shocker for Chandler as even Conor McGregor has burst his anticipation with his own callout of Gaethje. Considering the current scenario, not only Chandler’s tweet but the main event loss has also made Poirier crestfallen.

At the post-fight press conference, Dustin Poirier, who lost to Gaethje at UFC 291 in a title fight, had an emotional moment. Poirier stated that winning the BMF championship would have been good for his legacy while he was there.

He said, “It’s just… we’ll see. I don’t know what I am fighting for. I’m not fighting just to fight. I did that my whole life. My whole life, I’ve done that. I don’t want to fight, just to fight.”

‘The Diamond’ indeed seemed shattered, as his notions made it clearly evident. He was quite desperate to win the bout, but Gaethje had other plans to settle the score.

He also spoke about his long-term objectives and promised to stop fighting only for the sake of it. Poirier has suffered upsets in title battles previously, falling short to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight crown.
