On September 9th, the UFC is all set to make its comeback to Australia. During the UFC’s previous visit, the country hosted UFC 284 where Alexander Volkanovski fell short against Islam Makhachev despite his home-ground advantage. But not without a performance that left the Perth crowd roaring in support of ‘The Great.’

Now, after a six-month gap, Dana White and the company are all set to once again give a similar adrenaline-thumping experience to Aussies. However, the recent exit of Dricus Du Plessis from the fixture has left the event hanging in suspense. But when things were looking meek for UFC 293, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate, Belal Muhammad, has come up with a solution.

In one of his recent tweets, UFC’s welterweight fighter Belal Muhammad has come up with his proposal to save the UFC 293 card. According to the American athlete, he should face welterweight champion Leon Edwards for UFC gold in Australia. Retweeting a tweet that declares him the worthiest title contender, Muhammad wrote, “Australia needs a main event.”

Clearly, the tweet was an indirect demand to Dana White for a title match against Leon Edwards, something Muhammad has been campaigning for a while. For those unaware, the fighter is currently on a five-fight win streak, which includes wins over the likes of Gilbert Burns, Stephen Thompson, and Damian Maia. In fact, ‘Remember The Name’s last loss came against Geoff Neal back in 2019. It is noteworthy that it was Muhammad’s only loss in the last ten fights.

Up until now, promotional up-and-comer Dricus Du Plessis was slated to face Kiwi star Israel Adesanya. Du Plessis earned his title shot after an impressive knockout win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. But the South African pulled out, given the short duration he had to prepare for the event.

Colby Covington might be a roadblock to Belal Muhammad’s ambitions

At UFC’s 170 lb division, Belal Muhammad isn’t the only person who is looking for a title fight. His fellow welterweight Colby Covington has also been vocal about his own shot at the title. Currently sitting as the number one contender, Covington last faced Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. But despite almost a full year of absence, ‘Chaos’ stated himself to be next in line for the UFC welterweight title.

Recently, the former interim champion also claimed that the UFC plans to strip champion Leon Edwards in case the Englishman refuses to face him. Considering this fact, it looks like Muhammad has to wait for some time for his title ambitions. But since UFC hasn’t made anything official, it wouldn’t be wise to count out ‘Remember the Name’s proposal.
