Tom Aspinall returned to the UFC with fireworks last weekend, defeating veteran Mace Tybura in the first minutes of their fight. Aspinall followed this up with an octagon interview where he stated his intent to fight the winner of Cyril Gane vs. Sergey Spivak before taking on heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
But the Englishman took offense when Jon Jones replied with a short (and now deleted) tweet. ‘Bones’ simply wrote “Sounds good lol” to Aspinall’s callout. Aspinall told Ariel Helwani that he felt that Jones was being “patronizing”, and later tweeted a reply to ‘Bones’.

“I’m just putting it out there, Jon Jones is a patronising guy. I think he’s trying to patronize me. How dare he patronize me? How dare he? No, I dunno, whatever, but that’s the fight…that’s the dream fight, I’ll do whatever to get that.” he said.

He also felt confident that he would be able to beat Jones. He pointed to his quickness combined with his size as the key factors that would help him beat Jones.
“Well, he’s fought a lot of quicker guys before..I don’t mean quicker than me, I mean quicker than most heavyweights, being a light-heavyweight obviously. But he’s never fought someone quicker than a light-heavyweight who’s bigger than him before. Who is super-confident, with big fight IQ, who’s not intimidated, who’s young, and fresh, not loads of miles on the clock, and brings something different, and that’s what I think I bring to the table against Jon.” he told Helwani.
