Stepping into the octagon against former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was a major step up for Aliskerov, who made his UFC debut in 2023 following an impressive performance in Dana White’s Contender Series.

Aliskerov had strung together some impressive wins, but the pressure of the big stage got the best of him. However, despite the loss, the 31-year-old wrote a heartfelt message to his fans on social media.

The air crackled with anticipation for UFC’s historic debut in Saudi Arabia. But things weren’t exactly smooth sailing for Dana White as Khamzat Chimaev fell ill and had to pull out of his fight with Robert Whittaker. Thankfully, 31-year-old Ikram Aliskerov stepped up on short notice to save the main event. Unfortunately, Aliskerov’s dream fight didn’t last long. Robert Whittaker unleashed a blistering combination, including a brutal uppercut that crumpled Aliskerov.

“The Reaper” was ready to pounce for more, but the referee stepped into the TKO victory in the first round. Despite the loss, Aliskerov kept his head high. In a tweet, he wrote, “Alhamdulilla, no excuse. I don’t regret anything. It was a big experience against one of the best in the sport. I’m young, I’ll work on my mistakes, learn, and get back into business soon. Thank you to everyone for the support messages.”

Ikram Aliskerov’s emotional post after the fight struck a chord with many in the MMA community, including Khamzat Chimaev, the fighter the 31-year-old stepped in for on short notice. Even though Chimaev couldn’t compete because of illness, he showed true sportsmanship by extending his support to Aliskerov despite the defeat.

Khamzat Chimaev’s advice to Ikram Aliskerov

Khamzat Chimaev might have been sidelined by illness in his fight against Robert Whittaker, but that didn’t stop him from catching the action at UFC Saudi Arabia. After the dust settled, Chimaev took to social media to show some love to his fellow fighter, Ikram Aliskerov, wishing him a speedy recovery. He also tipped his cap to the Robert Whittaker, for the dominant first-round finish and that sweet $50,000 performance bonus.

Taking to X after the fight, Khamzat Chimaev displayed good sportsmanship. He congratulated the winner, Robert Whittaker, and expressed his desire to reschedule their fight with, “Congratulations Robert Whittaker, we are not done!” He also sent well wishes to Ikram Aliskerov with, “I wish you a speedy recovery Ikram Aliskerov, keep your head up my brother.
