The sport of mixed martial arts has seen a lot of changes in rules since its inception. From punches to the back of the head to fish hooking, many moves have been banned so far. However, in a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan mentioned some moves that, if made legal, can change the entire structure of the sport.

Former UFC fighter and comedian Brendan Schaub appeared in a recent ‘Fight Companion’ episode on the million-dollar ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast. He mentioned how badly fellow comedian Bryan Callen wanted him to fight free agent Derrick Lewis in a bare-knuckle fight. Moreover, the former UFC fighter talked about some unusual rules that would be made legal in the fight. That’s when Rogan mentioned a few game-changing elements in MMA.

Joe Rogan talks about game changers in MMA

Brendan Schaub told the 55-year-old that fighting in a bare-knuckle would be impossible for him since he hasn’t even fought in an MMA fight for over ten years. Moreover, the promoters wanted to do the event in Denver where fighters could stomp their opponent’s head. Schaub said, “You’re talking bare-knuckle MMA and they want to in Denver where they allow head stomps.”

Joe Rogan claimed that head-stomping would change the face of MMA completely. Along with head-stomps, he mentioned two more moves. The 55-year-old said, “Soccer kicks, head stomps, and if they go knees to the head on the ground, that’s a trifecta [and] like the biggest game changer.” Not too long ago, he even expressed his disdain for one more rule, which he believes does not make any sense.

JRE host sheds light on Jon Jones’s only loss via disqualification

In the #2012 JRE podcast episode, Rogan expressed his dissatisfaction regarding a rule in MMA. While talking about Jon Jones‘s only loss in MMA, he mentioned that the loss came via disqualification. It was because of an elbow strike on his downed opponent, Matt Hamill. Rogan said, “[Jon Jones] had one defeat that was a disqualification. That’s a 100 percent bullsh*t.”

He further added, “He was on top of this guy, smashing him [and] beating the f*ck out of him. But they said that he did 12-6 elbows, which are the dumbest f***ing ever rule in MMA.” Joe Rogan claimed that the rule does not have any logic because elbow strikes are legal in MMA, anyway.

Joe Rogan has always called for a few changes in MMA rules for a long time. The potential of bare-knuckle MMA could significantly alter the sport, depending on how well fighters can withstand injuries. Joe Rogan has continuously advocated for a rule modification that would allow soccer kicks and grounded knees to bring MMA closer to its source material: actual combat.
