The new Champion of the Bantamweight division in the UFC won his title through a stellar display of precision and timing. Aljamain Sterling came up short in that title defense match against Sean O’Malley paving the way for the new champion’s reign. However, before O’Malley, the number 2 ranked Merab Dvalishvili could have had a title shot. However, the Georgian Bantamweight has strict ground rules on who he won’t fight, much to the dismay of UFC President Dana White.

The duo of Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili have been good friends in the UFC. The two fighters who fight in the same division have on many occasions, expressed the importance of this relation as well. As a result, however, they refuse to fight each other in the Octagon. The president of the UFC, Dana White has expressed his disdain for the decision. But recently, Sean O’Malley took a shot at the duo on Instagram. However, this time, ‘The Machine’ clapped back.

A statement was released by ‘Sugar’ through the show ‘The MMA Hour’ on the duo. He said, “I knocked out Merab [Dvalishvili on] August 19, the same night I knocked out [Aljamain Sterling]. They’re the same, they hold hands, they’re the same person. I knocked them both out August 19.” However, there was a special comment under the post released by ‘MMAFighting’ on Instagram. It was none other than Dvalishvili himself.

Merab Dvalishvili indicated that ‘Sugar’s claims were nonsensical. ‘The Machine’ commented, “This all makes no sense Champ … say what you want to say .. I am next in line. I’m ready … are you ?” He declared his readiness to take on the current Bantamweight champion, going so far as to question O’Malley’s willingness to reciprocate. O’Malley in his statement also had more to say.

O’Malley’s prediction for the future

‘Sugar’ also had some ideas on how things might play out in the UFC. He said, “We’ll see what happens. I’ve called out the Chito fight before the fight, even happened, before me vs. Aljo, before Pedro vs. Chito.” O’Malley continued, “I said, ‘Hey, Chito goes out there and wins. I go out there and win. I’m fighting Chito for my first title defense’. That’s what happened. I just, that’s what’s going to happen next in my eyes.

The champion also stated that while this is what he wanted, he was still ready to rumble with whoever the UFC throws at him. He said, “That’s what I want. But you know, at the end of the day, I go out there, knock out whoever, whoever they put in front of me.” Fans will have to wait and see if Sean O’Malley will face off against Merab Dvalishvili next. As a fight inches closer, all eyes are on Dana White.
