Even though fans did not seem to like Dana White‘s decision to put Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill in the main event of UFC 300, the fight is set to take place this weekend. One fighter will defend his light heavyweight title for the first time, and the other will be attempting to regain the title he never lost. But we get to Saturday, we will be taking a closer look at both of their records.

A true light heavyweight, Jamahal Hill won the title after almost four years of fighting under Dana White’s promotion. He won the title in his eighth UFC fight by defeating his upcoming opponent’s mentor, Glover Teixeira. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira had a rather fast rise to the top. He won two titles in two separate divisions in just seven UFC fights, perhaps a record. But what are the stats of the reigning champion? Let’s see.

Alex Pereira had tremendous success in kickboxing before making his MMA debut in 2015. He fought three times in a regional promotion, following which he moved to the United States and started fighting under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner. After knocking out his first opponent in LFA, Dana White and Co. decided to bring ‘Poatan’ to the UFC. Pereira quickly built a three-fight winning streak before fighting for the belt against his arch-rival, Israel Adesanya, at UFC 281.

The rivalry between ‘Izzy’ and ‘Poatan’ was one of the most engaging ones in recent memory because they have been on each other’s necks since their kickboxing days. Alex Pereira knocked out Israel Adesanya at UFC 281 and won the middleweight title in just 4 UFC fights.

However, he lost the rematch, and to this day, that is the Brazilian’s only UFC loss so far. Meanwhile, Pereira decided to move to the 205lbs division after his loss and scored a controversial split-decision victory against the former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291, and then made history by winning the light heavyweight title at UFC 295 after knocking out Jiri Prochazka.

Alex Pereira is a powerful striker, known for his leg kicks and heavy punches. His kickboxing experience has come into play inside the Octagon. ‘Poatan’ has 7 career knockouts with a striking accuracy of 62% and a takedown accuracy of 100%, though he has attempted takedown only once against Israel Adesanya. Now, let’s move over to Jamahal Hill’s record.

Dana White’s Contender Series has produced some amazing and talented fights in the UFC, including Jamahal Hill. Having come to the UFC’s attention after racking up a 5-0 professional record, ‘Sweet Dreams’ impressed the White by knocking out the opponent in his only DWCS fight and earning a contract with the UFC. Hill steadily built his run in the world’s biggest MMA promotion with a three-fight winning streak (including DWCS) after defeating the likes of Alexander Poppeck, Darko Stosic, and Ovince Saint Preux.

However, Jamahal Hill suffered his first career loss against Paul Craig at UFC 263. However, that did not derail his momentum, and he got back to his winning ways and racked up another winning streak of 3 fights, defeating Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos before fighting for the title against Glover Teixeira. ‘Sweet Dreams’ bagged a unanimous decision at UFC 283 to be crowned the champion. On the statistics front, Hill has 7 career knockouts and a striking accuracy of 54%.
