After capturing the middleweight title, Khamzat Chimaev is now aiming to land a fight against Alex Pereira. He even called the 2-time light heavyweight champion out after ‘Poatan’s UFC 320 win. The call-out could have reignited the heat between Chimaev and Pereira’s camps. However, there is no animosity as of now, at least, as per Pereira’s mentor and best friend, Glover Teixeira. But he has another bone to pick with the Chechen star.

Glover Teixeira recently made an appearance on the UFC Glory Days podcast, presented by Fanatics, and gave his two cents on the fighter that Khamzat Chimaev is. While Alex Pereira’s mentor shared some words of praise for the Chechen star, he also expressed his one qualm with the UFC middleweight champion. Here’s what he had to say.

Is Khamzat Chimaev a bully? Alex Pereira’s best friend shares a story
Glover Teixeira, who’s a former champion himself and knows what it takes to get to the apex of the sport, is completely sold on the fact that Khamzat Chimaev is up there among the best fighters in the world today. “He’s great, he’s great. Like, the way he talks, and he backs it up, right? He comes back and shows… He’s an amazing fighter,” Glover Teixeira stated.
However, the one issue that Alex Pereira‘s best friend has with Khamzat Chimaev is his tendency to pick on fighters who do not compete at the same level he does. There are no reports that Glover Teixeira has trained with ‘Borz’, but he claims to know how much of a bully he can be in training. But despite the problem he has with the 185 lbs king, the Brazilian veteran believes that, as a fighter, Chimaev is the complete package.

“If I have to say one thing that I don’t like about Chimaev is like, I see sometimes he spars the guys. H beats s–t out of some people, you know, that are like not even on his level, in sparring,” Teixeira added on UFC Glory Days. “But he’s an amazing fighter… [He’s] good on the microphone too.”

If we look at what others who trained with Khamzat Chimaev had to say, their accounts about the MW champion are no different from those of Glover Teixeira’s. Former champion Sean Strickland once revealed that ‘Borz’ would often “ragdoll low-level pros” in training. But that’s not all, another UFC veteran shared a story where he almost got into a scuffle with Chimaev.

Jake Shields recounts a story about an incident with Chimaev
Last year, Jake Shields made a pretty interesting revelation about a PI altercation he had with Khamzat Chimaev. The Chechen star was engaged in a confrontation with Paulo Costa. According to Shields, he was ready to back up the Brazilian and fight Chimaev, who was with ten other guys, trying to gang up on ‘Borrachinha’. The veteran also claimed that the Chechen star’s entourage had been recording the whole incident on camera, but nothing happened.
“I came [to the PI] to meet you, and it’s like, alright, I gotta back you up. I liked you, I mean, I’m not gonna let 10 guys try to bully you. But it was kind of fake anyways because Chimaev waited over there in the corner,” Jake Shields said on his YouTube podcast. “He waited for the video cameras to come in, and then he runs over and was like, ‘Let’s fight’… If he wanted to fight you, he would’ve ran in. It was all for show.”
There have been a lot of fighters who have had some negative stories about Khamzat Chimaev. But what they do not deny is his unmatched ability to dominate his opponent inside the Octagon. That is what matters, and he’s proved that by winning the belt at UFC 319. Nevertheless, what do you make of the statements from Glover Teixeira about Chimaev being a bully in training?
