Alexander Gustafsson is one of the most prominent names in the UFC. The former title challenger has competed against some of the notable names, including Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier, and the current champion Glover Teixeira. In 2019, he announced his retirement from fighting, but returned to compete in the heavyweight division in 2020.

Unfortunately, ‘The Mauler’ lost in his heavyweight debut against Fabricio Werdum and has been on a hiatus ever since. When quizzed about his future, ‘The Mauler’ said, “Let’s see what’s going on. We are talking to the UFC a lot and I want to fight. I want to fight early this year and basically take it from there.”

“I want to make up for the Werdum fight. And I feel like I didn’t really get into that fight, really. He did a great job doing what he was supposed to do, and he got the win.”

“And I feel like I need to do stuff, you know. You take a fight and take one fight at a time. I want to fight early this year to just get in there having fun and take one win at a time, you know.”

The 34-year-old also claimed that he had looked to correct what went wrong in his previous appearance to return to the win column. However, despite a few setbacks on his resume, the former light heavyweight title challenger is quite happy with his career.

Alexander Gustafsson says he is not done yet

‘The Mauler'(18-7) has 14 finishes (11 T/KO 3 submissions) on his MMA resume. However, he has been unsuccessful in his three UFC title fights. Although ‘The Mauler’ is on a three-fight skid, he claims to be happy with what he has achieved so far.

In the same interview, Gustafsson said, “I’m probably in the middle in between somewhere. I feel like I am very happy about my career. As it’s been, but I feel like I am not done yet. It’s still writing the book.”

As the former title challenger has given the timeline for his return, it will excite the fight fans to see how he fares. However, the promotion is yet to announce an opponent for him. Hence, the fans will have to wait to know when and against whom he will return.
