‘The Notorious’ is fully recovered from the injury he suffered in his last outing. He is back to training and has hinted at a comeback this year. Ever since then, there have been many speculations about his return timeline and opponent.

However, the former lightweight champion is not interested in a fight at 155lbs now. Instead, the Irishman wants to clash against the number one pound-for-pound fighter, Kamaru Usman, for his belt. The reason behind this is ‘The Notorious’ wants to become the first UFC fighter to hold titles in three divisions.

However, this fight is currently not under Usman’s radar. But his manager Abdelaziz has an offer for the former lightweight champion. He wants to hold a 4 man tournament, where Usman will fight Leon Edwards, and McGregor will fight his old opponent Nate Diaz. If the Irishman wins, he gets the shot at the title.

Abdelaziz took to his official Twitter account and wrote, @USMAN84kg vs Leon Edwards and Conor vs Nate, this is 4 man tournament. If this little Irish Bi**h win, he gets his title shot next.”

Abdelaziz and McGregor have come in a full circle. Both have never been on good terms. Earlier, Abdelaziz was the manager of McGregor’s arch-nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov. And the Irishman took a jibe at Abdelaziz by calling him out ahead of UFC 229.

Is Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor 3 in the making

Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz is one of the most vicious rivalries in the history of the UFC. They first crossed paths inside the cage in 2016, where Diaz defeated McGregor via submission.

Later, in the same year, they fought in a rematch. This time around, the Irishman outclassed Diaz and secured a decision victory. Both fights between Diaz and McGregor are some of the highest-selling bouts in the history of the UFC.

Hence, there was always a window for a blockbuster trilogy. Interestingly, UFC President Dana White is also interested in it. Diaz has only one fight left on his contract. He has been asking for his next fight for a long time now. However, the UFC hasn’t finalized his bout.

All these factors only hint at one thing. The promotion might be waiting for McGregor to return. So that they can make this trilogy happen before Diaz’s contract ends.
