Aljamain Sterling Teases an Imminent Move Up to Featherweight After Recent Title Defense Against Petr Yan at UFC 273

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has had an interesting time over the last few months. Fans heavily trolled Sterling as he won the title from Petr Yan via DQ at UFC 259. After ‘Funkmaster’ won the rematch at UFC 273, he will need to defend it against the conveyor belt of bantamweight contenders. While the likes of ‘No Mercy’, Jose Aldo, and Cory Sandhagen are waiting, the champion seemed interested in another name and even teased a move to 145.

A fan asked Sterling, “What about you Vs Merab then?”

Sterling replied, “After Merab’s next win, I will probably have to move up, allow him his chance that he earned, to make history for Georgia. To win a world title. We will figure it out.” 

Merab Dvalishvili responded, “This man @funkmastermma is gold! I learn from him every day. I am grateful to call him brother !”

What happens in the future is something fans will have to wait and see. However, Aljamain Sterling might have an opponent around the block as he recently called out a former UFC bantamweight champion.

Aljamain Sterling called out TJ Dillashaw at UFC 273

At UFC 273, the champion won a decision against Petr Yan, that earned him the respect of the fans. While talking to Joe Rogan after the fight, ‘Funkmaster’ called out former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

Aljamain Sterling looked fired up and referred to Dillashaw as ‘Pillashaw’ and ‘Needleshaw’ while calling him out.

Dillashaw, who was in attendance at the fight, was quick to respond to him. He thanked Sterling for calling him out and hoped ‘Funkmaster’ enjoys pretending to be the champion. Dillashaw further added he would get the belt and called the fight with Sterling “easy money.”

Well, only time can tell about whom Aljamain Sterling faces next. However, with the quality of opponents, the current bantamweight champion will have a lot of options available to him.
