Khamzat Chimaev is one of the brightest prospects in the welterweight division of the UFC. The Chechnya-born fighter made his UFC debut in July 2020 and became a star in the promotion ever since. The 27-year-old is yet to lose a fight in his professional MMA career.

The fact that he has finished all of his opponents shows his dominance inside the cage. The Swedish fighter is currently preparing for the biggest fight of his career against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. A win against Burns might clear his path towards a title shot in the 170lbs category.

Khamzat Chimaev opened up on his feelings while joining the UFC in a recent interview with UFC’s John Gooden.

Chimaev was wearing an exotic fur coat, donning his iconic beard. When asked about his feeling when he got to know he was joining the UFC, Chimaev simply stated he was “happy.”

He said, “I was happy. I feel like I still couldn’t believe when I was outside… but was something is different and day after they become normal.” 

Gooden then asked him if he knew that his life was going to change soon. ‘Borz’ responded saying he couldn’t sleep the night he got to know he was signing for the UFC.

‘Borz’ said, “Yeah, when they called me at that time I didn’t know like now I’m gonna go inside the UFC how to take everything out there make a better life and everything I was thinking about all night I couldn’t sleep you know. So it was like… yeah I don’t know… amazing. It is amazing.”

Khamzat Chimaev expects a title shot next

‘Borz’ has quickly climbed the UFC hierarchy and currently ranks #11 in the welterweight category. He’s on a four-fight win streak at present and a win against Gilbert Burns will make it five. The Swedish fighter has an impeccable 10-0 record and is well within his rights to expect a title shot next.

In fact, Chimaev recently revealed that Dana White has already given him a hint of the same. He opened up on his chances of getting a title shot while appearing on ‘The Triple C and Schmo’ show.

Chimaev revealed, “Yeah, he told us. Me and him was a meeting with Dana a couple of days ago… He said after that fight, people want to see you on the for the title. I said… let’s go. I’m ready for, I think it’s mine next, because in like out 10 fights, 10 finishes and I this guy gonna take his head is over.”
