With a big fight coming right up at UFC 294 on October 21, it will mark the one-year anniversary of Oliveira losing his grip on the title. Forced to surrender it to Islam Makhachev, the fighter is now back for blood.

Charles Oliveira and his comeback praised by Joe Rogan
Charles Oliveira had a slow start in the UFC. He started off as a featherweight fighter and would have on-and-off wins and losses. If consistency was the problem, changing his weight division may have appeared as a solution. As soon as Do Bronx became a lightweight fighter, he started picking up great wins. Rogan took notice of this and gushed in appreciation of this change.
“He was just too dehydrated and fu*ked up at 45 and for whatever reason just didn’t have it together mentally.” Said Rogan. “And then boom, all of a sudden he’s the fu*king man.”

There is some truth to what Rogan said. There are a few examples of fighters changing weight divisions and then emerging victorious more often. However, the question is, was that all it took for Oliveira to become a better fighter? Rogan implied that his motivational reasons also changed him for the better.

“. . . looking at Charles versus Beneil Dariush, it’s like, he’s back. And he’s such an interesting case, right? Because at one point in time like the Cub Swanson fight, a couple of his other fights, people are like, wow, Charles just doesn’t have it. . . And then he has a kid. He has a dog.”
Mental motivation for any fighter can turn the tide. This clearly holds true for Do Bronx. He hadn’t lost a single fight since 2017 until the day Islam Makhachev tore him down last year. The title rematch could be a huge deal especially if Oliveira wins. It could possibly set them up for a trilogy as pointed out by the bantamweight champ.

‘Suga’ wants Oliveira to take home the title
Sean O’Malley knows what it means to be the champion. However, it’s not the only reason he wants Oliveira to be champion again. He voiced the idea of an entertaining third match like no other. With Oliveira being as unpredictable as he is and Islam just being his strong self, a trilogy would rock the world.
“I would love to see Charles fu*king win,” said O’Malley. “That would make for a huge trilogy.”

For now, we’ll just have to wait and watch if Oliveira gets his vengeance, especially when Makhachev won’t have his trusty friend Khabib Nurmagomedov by his side for his upcoming fight. While some fans expect that this may shake his performance a little bit, ‘The Eagle’ has great confidence in his teammate. And we’ll find out the rest in UFC 294.
