Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were once best friends and training partners. The two helped each other elevate their game. When they reached the top of the mountain, they became bitter rivals and crossed paths at UFC 272. While Covington proved he was the better fighter on the day, ‘Gamebred’ showed interest in crossing paths with ‘Chaos’ again.

After their bout, there was an incident that took place with Colby Covington outside the Papi Steak in Miami Beach, Florida. The UFC’s top welterweight, who was at the hotel with the Nelk Boys, suffered serious injuries after an alleged assault. Covington pressed charges against Jorge Masvidal.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC’s BMF champion offered his thought on Covington’s move.

“Allegedly this, allegedly that, but I’m innocent. I’m not guilty,” noted the 37-year-old.

Masvidal added, “I’m facing three felonies if you want to know the exact truth. And yeah, you know, still pending, you know. This guy is a coward f***. So, what could I expect from a coward f*** like him.”

When asked if he could return to the Octagon later in the year, ‘Gamebred‘ responded, “Yeah; Whether, I mean… I’m in the justice system, right? So, it’s not like I get to make these calls and stuff, you know. So, I want to say I’ll be okay; I always am a positive person. I got my faith in a good outcome, but I still am facing three felonies, you know.”

The inaugural and only BMF champion had a tough time inside the Octagon after winning this title from Nate Diaz, who claimed that he was defending it against Masvidal. After three successive defeats since UFC 244, he is looking for his next opponent and has been going back and forth with Crumlin’s own Conor McGregor.

Is Jorge Masvidal and Conor McGregor the fight to make?

A contest between ‘The Notorious‘ and ‘Gamebred’ could set new UFC PPV records. Both fighters are proven PPV stars, as both have crossed that big million number on PPV. McGregor’s numbers are well-known, whereas Masvidal’s rise to fame came after his astonishing run in 2019.

Both fighters are currently taking jibes at each other on Twitter. However, both have a roadblock of some kind in their way, which is holding them back from signing the dotted line for a bout against each other. That said, this matchup would always intrigue the fans, just like a Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz trilogy bout.
