The UFC president Dana White has confirmed the trilogy bout between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena in the female bantamweight division at UFC 289. The fight will take place on June 10th, and the two fighters will fight for the title. Last year, “The Lioness” won against “The Venezuelan Vixen” at UFC 277. Nunes emerged victorious via decision. Before Nunes won the title, Pena and Nunes locked horns at UFC 269.

The match paved the way for one of the greatest upsets in UFC history, as Julianna Pena won the fight by trapping Nunes in a rear naked choke just 3 minutes, 26 seconds into round two. The loss became a major setback in the fighting career of The ” Lioness,” as her 12-fight winning streak was also broken. Following the loss, Nunes came back stronger than ever.

Before losing to Pena, Nunes was one of the greatest female fighters in the UFC. She became the two-division champion and at present, she holds belts in two divisions simultaneously. However, none of these seems to excite the fans for a trilogy bout between the two.

The UFC boss told TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter about the UFC 289 main event. Bronstester tweeted, “Just spoke with UFC President Dana White, who confirms that Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena 3 will headline UFC 289.” The tweet found its way to Reddit, and fans were quick to react to the breaking news.
