Amanda Nunes Tests Positive for COVID-19 Out of Her UFC 265 Clash With Julianna Pena

The UFC 265 event was all set to be one of the best MMA events of the year. The card which is set to be headlined by the main event fight between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane, promises to be an entertaining affair. Apart from the main event fight, there are a plethora of great fights scheduled for the event. One such fight was the Women’s bantamweight clash between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena.
Nunes was set to defend her Bantamweight title for the record sixth time. However, according to the latest news, ‘Lioness’ has withdrawn from her co-main event fight against Pena. UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell informed ESPN of the same on Thursday.
Amanda Nunes tested positive for COVID, canceling her fight against Julianna Peña that was scheduled for #UFC265, UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell told @MikeCoppinger.

Campbell informed that the plan is to reschedule the fight to when Nunes is completely healthy. Nunes is also the UFC women’s Featherweight champion and is No.1 in the women’s pound-for-pound rankings. Earlier this year ‘Lioness’ had defended her UFC Featherweight title against Megan Anderson at UFC 259.
Nunes’s opponent Pena is a relatively younger fighter and was competing in her first UFC title match. Pena who is a winner of The Ultimate Fighter 18 defeated Sara McMann in her last fight to earn this title shot.
While many considered Nunes to be the heavyweight favorite going into the fight. This was a great opportunity for ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ as an impressive performance against ‘Lioness’ would have greatly helped her.
When will the fight between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena happen now?
Hunter Cambell has informed that the plans are to reschedule the fight to when Nunes is fully fit. Therefore, one can not guess when the title fight will eventually take place.

However, one thing is for sure, whenever ‘Lioness’ returns to action, she will be rearing to go out and defend her title. Now with the Nunes vs Pena fight scrapped, the UFC will promote another fight to serve as the co-main event of UFC 265. The Jose Aldo vs Pedro Munhoz fight will most probably be the co-main event of UFC 265.
